About this video

The Light Effect is one object with four styles, made for the moments every end card has: turning rays behind a prize, a soft glow behind a headline, sparkles around something precious, and a shine sweeping across a call-to-action button. This tutorial builds a prize card from scratch and walks every setting on the canvas - the two colours, strength, the Glowing (additive) and Solid blends, speed, ray and sparkle counts, Breathe, and for the shine its corner radius, pause, band width and angle. A light never catches a tap, animates like any other object, and draws the same in the editor and the exported HTML5 ad.

Rays turning behind the prize, a warm glow on the headline, sparkles, and a shine sweeping across the button. That's one object, used four times: the Light Effect.

In the next few minutes: all four styles, every colour and motion setting, and where to put a light so it lights the prize instead of covering it.

I started this prize card from scratch. Add New Object, and pick Light Effect.

It lands in the middle as light rays. I'll make it 360 × 360, and centre it on the diamond.

Right now it's drawn on top, washing over the diamond. In the layers list, Move Down, twice, and the rays sit behind it.

Under Effect there are four styles: light rays, a soft glow, sparkles, and a shine sweep. Each one shows only the settings it uses.

Rays alternate two colours, Main and Second. For a blue diamond, an icy blue and a violet.

Strength is how bright it is. 30% is a hint of light, 100% is a spotlight. I'll settle on 90%.

Glowing adds its light to whatever is behind it. Solid paints the colour as it is, flatter and deeper. On a dark card, Glowing reads as light.

Speed turns it. 0 stops the turning, 3 spins it fast. 1 is a calm turn.

Rays sets how many beams. 4 is a bold cartoon burst, 32 a fine sunburst. I'll use 20.

Breathe makes the rays swell and fade gently. Switch it off and they turn perfectly steady. It's subtle, so I leave it on.

Second light: a soft glow for the headline. Add another Light Effect, and choose Soft glow.

A glow fills its box, so stretch the box into an oval: 375 × 120, over the title. Then Move Down once, so the words stay on top.

A glow has one colour. Warm orange behind yellow letters, at 80%. Breathe makes it pulse like a heartbeat, and Speed sets how fast.

Third: sparkles. Add a Light Effect, choose Sparkles, and spread the box around the diamond. This one stays on top, so the stars twinkle in front.

Sparkles sets how many. 40 is a starfield, 3 is a few precious glints. 18 is right for this card.

They mix two colours too: white, and the same icy blue. And they twinkle in the same places in the editor and in the exported ad, every time.

Last, a shine sweep across the Claim button. Add one more, choose Shine sweep, and give it exactly the button's box.

The band is clipped to the box, so match the corner radius. At 0, the shine crosses the square corners, outside the button. The button is 60 tall and fully round, so 30.

Pause between sweeps. Zero is sweep after sweep, which feels nervous. About a second keeps catching the eye without nagging.

Band width is how wide the streak is, as a share of the box. Narrow is a glint, wide is a wash of light.

Angle tilts it. Straight up and down looks mechanical, 20° or so reads as a reflection.

A Light Effect animates like any other object. In the Animate tab, I'll give the rays Pop In, so they burst open behind the diamond when the card appears.

And light never catches a tap. The shine sits on top of the button, and the button underneath still gets every touch.

Press Play, and here is the whole card: rays, glow, sparkles and shine, all from one object type.

Three things to avoid. One: rays on top of the hero. Light goes under the thing it lights.

Two: every light at full strength. Let one lead, and keep the rest as accents.

Three: Glowing on a pale background. Added light vanishes on white, so switch to Solid.

Next up: the Burst Effect, for confetti, coins and reward stars on a tap.

That's the Light Effect. See you in the next video!
