About this video
A parallax background repeats one tile image and scrolls it on its own. Stack several - stars, clouds, mountains, hills, a road - each slower the further away it is, and a flat ad feels deep. This tutorial builds a night drive from five layers and a car that never moves, covering the tile, direction and speed, tile scale, fullscreen and opacity.

Stars, clouds, mountains and a road - each one scrolling at its own speed. That's what makes a flat picture feel deep.
That's the parallax background. In the next few minutes: the tile, direction and speed, tile scale, layering for depth, fullscreen, and opacity.
Add New Object, Parallax BG. It arrives as a band across the canvas. Upload tile image: one picture, repeated in every direction.

The box decides where it shows. I'll make it as tall as the mountains, and put it on the horizon.
Auto scroll moves it on its own, and the arrows pick a direction: right, up, diagonal. Back to left - the way the car drives.
Speed X and Speed Y are pixels per second. Two hundred races past. Twenty-two is a slow, distant drift.
Tile Scale sizes the picture inside the box. At a half, the range is smaller, and further away. Back to one.
Now the trick. Parallax is several layers, and the further away, the slower: stars, clouds, mountains, hills - and the road, fastest of all. That difference is the depth.
Fullscreen On covers the whole canvas, in both orientations, and locks it like a background. Off, it's an ordinary box again.
And like any object, a layer takes opacity and blend mode. Clouds at half, so the stars show through.
Press Play, and take it for a drive.
Start driving, and the End Card - over the same starry sky.
Three mistakes to avoid. One: a tile whose edges don't match. The seam scrolls past, over and over - make the left and right edges meet.
Two: every layer at the same speed. That's just a moving picture. The difference is the depth.
Three: a huge tile. It repeats, so a few hundred pixels is plenty - and it ships inside the ad.
That's the parallax background. See you in the next video!
