About this video

Playable Ads Maker embeds your own fonts in a playable ad and cuts each one down to the characters the ad draws, so a 350 KB font file ships as a few kilobytes. The Font Weight list offers only the weights the file contains, a warning names any character the font is missing, and the Project fonts dialog shows exactly what each font adds to the export.

Transcript

Same ad, same words - one font changes how it feels. And in the file, it costs under eight kilobytes.

That's custom fonts. In the next few minutes: uploading one, the weights it really has, the characters it's missing, and what it costs.

Select a text, open Font Family, and the last option is Upload a font.

Drop a font file in - woff2, woff, TTF or OTF. It's read straight away: this one has five weights, three hundred to seven hundred, and every character it can draw.

Close the dialog, and your font sits at the top of the list, under Project fonts. Pick it.

Font Weight now offers only the weights the file really has. Anything else, the browser would fake - smeared, not bold. Seven hundred for the headline.

Now the subline. It has an arrow, and this font doesn't. Open Manage fonts: the warning names the character - it would be drawn by whatever font each phone falls back to.

And the cost: three hundred and fifty kilobytes uploaded, under eight in the export. Only the characters your ad draws are kept.

No font of your own? The Game fonts - Montserrat, Poppins and Lilita One - are built in, and cut down the same way.

Three mistakes to avoid. One: a font you can't use in ads. Upload only fonts licensed for embedding.

Two: renaming a family after you've used it. Text set to the old name falls back - rename first, or set the text again.

Three: symbols. Arrows, stars and ticks are missing from most display fonts - read the warning, and swap them for words or an image.

That's custom fonts. See you in the next video!
